How do you squeeze four bedroom into a tiny block in the inner-city suburb of Newtown? You go upwards of course!This family of four were out growing their little semi and desperately needed room to grow without sacrificing valuable backyard space for the children and two energetic dogs. The local council also required that the extension should not be visible from the street. By building on top of the rear of the house, utilising the existing roof space at the front and restricting the pitch of the roof, we were able to add two extra bedrooms and a bathroom – resulting in a four-bedroom, two-bathroom family home.A central void area and dramatic stairwell brings in plenty of light; a clever kitchen design exploits every inch available space; and sleek, modern fixtures give the impression of openness in the bathrooms. The result is a spacious home with every modern convenience and plenty of room for the family and their guests.
